Taisei Project discord beta (08/02/2019) Released
p-sam has released The Taisei Project, which is a homebrew game port for the Nintendo Switch of the Taisei (lit. Occident) engine. The Taisei Project is a free and open-source fangame of the Tōhō series, written in C using SDL2 and OpenGL. Basically, it is a shoot ’em up game with lots of bullets (the genre is literally called bullet hell). It doesn’t aim to rebuild a particular installment of the Tōhō games, but is rather an original game set in the world of Tōhō. Enjoy dodging through 6 stages full of new bullet patterns on four difficulty levels!
The game engine has been ported pretty much flawlessly to the Nintendo Switch. The controls are tight (the analog sticks work great) and the gameplay is fluid with no skips or stutter. The game itself features great graphics and a lot of depth. The only complaint I have that it's not widescreen, but after a couple minutes of play you'll forget it as this shoot 'em up is not forgiving, but at least you have lives and can use continues.
