NEUTOS 0.11.1-R1-NEUTOS Released

NEUTOS 0.11.1-R1-NEUTOS

borntohonk has released a new version of NEUTOS, which is a modified Atmosphere fork and its main purpose is to add support for a widely used homebrew named Tinfoil. Due to petty scene drama support for this and other homebrew is not in vanilla Atmosphere.

Unlike other packages including Kermit or bloated crap produced by the child abusing clan, NEUTOS doesn't require a Hekate or a derivative of it to work. borntohonk points out that Hekate is not required for you to run an emuMMC NAND installation. For purists NEUTOS is the closest thing you can get to Vanilla Atmosphere and it's only been modified to work with homebrew that the Switchbrew team deems you don't need to use.

The package is complete and contains a custom payload, the Atmosphere fork, signature patches and the Homebrew Menu. NEUTOS also includes an emuMMC config for SX OS users who created and have been using a hidden emuNAND install on their Micro SD Card that may want to migrate to borntohonk's software.

What's New?

- if you have the previous 0.11.1 release, you don't have to get R1, it's mostly only cosmetic changes)

- NEUTOS 0.11.1-R1 implements branding and a requested change sent to me, and also reduces boot time by 2 second

Instructions

For transparency per GPL request from r/switch-hacks sent to an unrelated third-party which does not represent me in any shape or form (official sub-reddit of the "ReSwitched") , this segment of text is here to inform that I am in compliance with the GPL license(s) of the projects included in this release. The offending binary distributed ( payload.bin, reboot_payload.bin provided both in the archive titled "atmosphere-0.11.1-neutos-7a0afe48+hbl-2.3.1+hbmenu-3.3.0.zip", and also a third time as a standalone release) is not part of the atmosphere project. It's a chainloader belonging to a third-party that is proprietary closed source software based off of Shofel2 (https://github.com/fail0verflow/shofel2). And everything else can be reproduced, as stated further below in the description.

I do acknowledge that I have been missing the license, required per Shofel2's choice of license. Said license is now provided, per Shofel2's licensing conditions. The license for atmosphere, nx-hbloader and nx-hbmenu has also been added out of courtesy to the release archive.

Also full disclosure, I am not affiliated with "u/Underprivlidged", or any parties therein. I am my own person, and my contact information as a private person are disclosed above and on my github profile.

NOTE 0: If you don't have an emummc, then note 1 does not apply for you. If you wonder if you should proceed without one or not, then you should consider leaving any and all switch modding over to your legal guardians.

NOTE 1: YES, payload.bin BOOTS YOUR EMUMMC IF YOU HAVE AN EMUMMC.INI INSIDE OF /emuMMC/, WHOEVER IS SPREADING MISINFORMATION ABOUT THAT YOU NEED HEKATE TO BOOT EMUMMC IS DOING THE ENTIRE SWITCH HOMEBREW COMMUNITY A DISSERVICE. PLEASE SCOLD WHOEVER TOLD YOU THAT, OR WHATEVER COMMUNITY IS SPREADING SUCH NONSENSE.

NOTE 2: the payload.bin provided MUST be used!

NOTE 3: Neither Tinfoil, or configurations for Tinfoil are included in this release.

NOTE 4: Your games / save games are not stored anywhere in any of the folders listed in step 0, stop asking if your games/savegames will be deleted.

How to use:

Make sure your sd card is fat32 formatted before starting!!
Step 0: Delete the folders called "Atmosphere", "Sept" on the root of the sd card before proceeding.
Step 1: Extract the contents of the archive called "atmosphere-0.11.1-neutos-7a0afe48+hbl-2.3.1+hbmenu-3.3.0.zip"
Step 2A: Put the folders/files on the root of your sd card. (boot.dat, hbmenu.nro and any folder included)
Step 2B: Overwrite everything if it prompts you to overwrite anything.
Step 2C (optional): For users with SXOS hidden partition EmuNAND switching to NEUTOS, download emummc_configs_for_sxos_hidden_partition_emunand_users.zip from the NEUTOS latest release and extract the emummc folder to root of the SD.
Step 3: Inject the RCM payload included called "payload.bin", the same way you usually inject anything else. (An "SX" branded dongle can be used for this step.)
Step 4: You can now use Tinfoil 8+.
People who have "TX" branded dongles, and also have "Hidden partition emuNAND" setups should consider downloading the pre-configured emummc configurations to be able to keep using them, while also changing to this release instead of whatever inferior package "SXOS" consists of.
They can do so by downloading the "emummc_configs_for_sxos_hidden_partition_emunand_users.zip", extracting it and placing the "emummc" folder on their sd card. That's how quick and simple it is to change.

This is a modified 0.11.1 Atmosphere release nicknamed "NEUTOS", it has support for firmware versions up to and including 10.0, making it have support for Tinfoil 8+ out of the box. It contains the necessary changes for Tinfoil to be able to run.

  1. Hello there! - I really love NeutOS and the service it means to the switch community to not have to buy SXOS. It's worked awesome but I have a problem. I recently updated to Firmware 10.1.0 using ChoiDojourNX, and the EmmuMMC is updated with no problem; I couldn't open the games right after, but with some sigpatches it has been fixed. Now my issue is that I cannot use HEKATE (which I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be a surprise, I think Hekate just doesn't work with Neutos all that well) - NOW THE THING IS, I can boot into the EmmuMMC, and it's working great, but I cannot boot into the CFWsysnand (was never able; I can either RCM it and go straight into EmmuMMC, or not RCM and boot HOS by default on the STOCK) - this was never a major step back, but now I REALLY NEED TO BOOT INTO THE CFWSYSNAND, so that I can update it to 10.1.0 and by effect update the STOCK to 10.1.0 without getting banned (or risk it at least). QUITE SIMPLY PUT; I cannot boot the CFWSYSNAND with HEKATE, and thats the only way I know how to do it. Is there an alternative way to boot into the CFWSysnand with NEUTOS? or to patch this so that it works with Hekate? - or is this finally the day that I will actually buy SXOS?

For further information; when I inject the latest hekate payload, the mini menu is fine, but once I go 'Launch' and press CFWSysnand, I get an error that says the following:

    "Error while loading fss0:
    atmosphere/fusee-secondary.bin
Wrong ini cfg or missing files/
    Failed to launch HOS/
    Press any key..."

If I figured out how to boot into the CFWSysnand then this would be perfect. Beforehand I thank anyone who figures this out. Cheers xx.
