FCE Ultra GX v3.4.4 Released

FCE Ultra GX v3.4.4

FCE Ultra GX is an NES emulator based on FCEUX. With it you can play NES games on your Wii/GameCube. The GUI is powered by libwiigui.

dborth offers us the 53rd release of its modded version of FCE Ultra GX. As a reminder, this is an emulator for playing NES games on your GameCube or your Wii.

FCEUltra GX uses a GUI interface which is based on the libwiigui, it is based on FCEUX in revision r2818, and the author of this mod was not simply content to add a theme. He added new images, support for the Wii U Pro controller, but also a Screenshot button, improved scrolling, and changed the cheat menu.

Since April 2019, we had not had the pleasure of having an update of this emulator.

Compiling

Here's some basic instructions on compiling FCEUGX. You don't need to be a programmer to follow these instructions but you should have some basic computer know-how. There's a few reasons you might want to do this:

  1.     To use the latest version of the emulator (note that beta versions may be unstable)
  2.     To access roms/saves from Windows File Sharing (SMB), without needing an SD card - just edit fceuconfig.cpp
  3.     To make your own custom changes

Instructions

  1.     Ensure that you have devkitPPC r24 and libogc 1.8.7 or higher installed. If you have an older version, completely uninstall it first.
  2.     Download and copy the ported libraries to your PPC portlibs folder (on Windows this is c:\devkitPro\portlibs\ppc)
  3.     Download the source
  4.     Run Programmer's Notepad (installed with devkitPro)
  5.     Find the Makefile from the source you downloaded. Click Tools > Make.
  6.     You're done!

Getting Started

Setup & Installation

Download the latest version from the releases page.

Wii
The most popular method of running homebrew on the Wii is through the Homebrew Channel. If you already have the channel installed, just copy over the apps folder included in the archive into the root of your SD card.

Remember to also create the fceugx directory structure required (a sample structure is included in the archive).

For more detailed instructions, see Wiibrew.

GameCube
You can load FCE Ultra GX via sdload and an SD card in slot A, or by streaming it to your Gamecube, or by making a bootable DVD.

Changelog 3.4.4:

- Addition of a combination "back start + A + B + Z" to return to the emulator
- Updated Spanish translation
- Added support for serial port 2 (SP2 / SD2SP2) on Gamecube
- Compiled with the latest available libraries
